Checklist for Operating Swing Stages on Wind Turbine Exteriors

Read the Code of Safe Practices prior to using platform.
Read the hoist Operational Manual prior to using platform.
Perform the Hoist Daily Inspections prior to using the platform.
Read the Generator Requirements on the Checklist prior to using platform.
Verify total platform weight and live load does not exceed hoist's rated load.
When de-rigging the secondary wire rope, to remove the secondary wire rope from the hoist, push the
primary inlet guide to the side to release the secondary safety brake.
Verify that fall arrest systems do not allow the worker to fall a
distance greater than 6 feet.
Know the maximum wind speed allowed for exterior work
in the wind farm. Carry an anemometer to measure wind
speed. Do not work in unsafe wind or weather conditions.
Ensure taglines are secured to structural uprights of
platform. (1)
Verify fall arrest anchor bolts are tightened to 150 ft-lbs of
torque. (2)
Keep the deck clear to eliminate trip hazards. Use work
buckets to store materials outside the deck/platform area.
Verify kellum grips on power supply are attached properly to
stirrup.
WARNINGS
To prevent damage to equipment, de-rig platform during
severe weather conditions.
Inspect wire ropes for kinks, broken wires or bird caging prior
to rigging.
Do not overload the platform. Confirm that weight of the
total equipment including workers, tools, wire ropes, power
cord and accessories does not exceed hoist rated load.
Verify all rollers on stirrup mast turn freely and that there are
no signs of excessive wear. (3)
Do not drill, cut, remove parts from or modify the platform.
If you need something different on the platform, call
SPIDER at 877-774-3370 for assistance.
If hoist is not operating properly, read the operation manual for troubleshooting help.

√ Fall arrest anchor has two connection points; one
per operator. These connection points are to be
used with a shock-absorbing lanyard. (4)
√ Verify the lifeline is properly attached to the
platform at the top rail bumper plate. The lifeline
is used to stabilize the platform on the blade or
tower. To release lifeline from rope grab, pull
rope towards rope grab and then release cam.

√ Verify the support is in place and bolts are
secure. (6)
√ Verify the hoist nameplate information meets the
requirements for voltage supplied to the hoist and
capacity ratings of the platform. (7)
√ Verify the storage bucket is properly attached to
the platform and drain holes in the bucket are
free from debris. To remove or relocate the
storage bucket, pull the spring-loaded pin to
disengage it from the platform. (8)
√ Verify the hoist lanyard is attached to the hoist
carrying handle and the stirrup as shown in
detailed picture to secure hoist in the upright
position. (9)
√ Verify the roller bumpers are secured to the
platform. Verify the roller bumpers turn freely
and are in good condition. (10)
√ Verify the hitch pins are installed and are secured
with a hair pin. (11)
