When listening at low volumes, (late at night, for example), the quietest passages can be difficult to
hear and the loud passages are often too loud. The n i g h t mode reduces the system's dynamic range
(the diff e rence between loudest and softest sounds) so the quiet parts of the program are clearly
audible even at low volume, while attenuating the loudest passages so others are n 't disturbed.
NOTE: The n i g h t mode can only be used when Dolby Digital is active. Because it is software - d e p e n-
dent, its effect can be quite subtle, depending on the particular pro g r a m .
