Connecting to Natural Gas Source
• A professionally installed shut-off valve is required, as recommended by the National
Fuel Gas Code, coating threads using gas resistant pipe compound or approved
Teflon PTFE tape. Connection must be made outdoors.
• Be sure to follow all applicable codes and requirements of the Authority Having
Jurisdiction.
Connection Checks
WARNING: Before using this unit, make sure you have read, understand,
and are following all information provided in the important safety information
section. Failure to follow those instructions can cause death, serious injury,
or property damage.
• Prior to each operation, check the hoses and other components for evidence of excessive wear or damage. Replace
damaged or worn-out hoses before use.
• Ensure connections are securely fastened between the torch, control system, and gas source.
WARNING: Failure to inspect all connections or follow these instructions could cause a fire or explosion, which can
cause death, serious bodily injury, or damage to the property.
Checking for Leaks
• Use a leak detector or leak check solution to verify there are no leaks at any of the connections.
• If a leak is detected, turn the gas OFF, reconnect, and re-test. If a leak is still detected, turn gas off and contact your gas
supplier.
Lighting Instructions
• Failure to properly perform lighting as stated in these instructions may cause danger. Read and understand all operating
instructions before lighting.
• Open the valve at the gas source, then turn the knob on the Match-Lit Flame Control System counterclockwise a small
amount to open the valve enough for ignition.
NOTE: Start by opening the knob 5-10%. In most cases, control knob does not need to be opened completely for ignition
and operation. This will prevent excessive gas accumulation during the lighting process.
• Wearing heat resistant gloves, use a fireplace match or BBQ lighter to light the torch.
• DO NOT try to light or operate the basalt torches in the event of storm conditions or high wind.
NOTE: Lighting may generate a quick burst of flame around the torch. Take caution, do not wear any loose clothing, and
keep children, pets, and long hair away from the area.
NOTE: Light all torches quickly, so that excess gas is not able to accumulate in the area.
• After lighting, the control system knob can be adjusted to achieve the desired flame height.
WARNING: If the flame goes out during operation, immediately close the control knob and let the gas clear a
minimum of 5 minutes before attempting to re-light.
WARNING: Use caution during and after operation as torches will be very hot and lead to burns.
• To shut down, simply close the knob on the control system and at the gas source.
NOTE: After use, the torch shroud will gather a layer of soot. This is natural and will help the torch to blend into the top
surface of the column.

Maintenance

• The torch shroud is removable for quick and easy cleaning and maintenance, refer to safety information for more details on
safe operation. This fire feature should be cleaned regularly to ensure safe use and extend the product's life.
