18. Range

Under ideal conditions the range of the transmission of the radio signals between outdoor sensor and weather station
is up to 30m.
This indication is a so-called "Free field range".
However, in practice this ideal condition (e.g. weather station and outdoor sensor on straight, even
meadow without trees, houses etc.) never exists.
Normally, the weater station is placed in the house and the outdoor sensor next to a window.
Due to the different influences on the radio reception, a certain range cannot be guaranteed.
However, the operation in a detached house usually is possible without any problems.
If the weather station does not receive any data from the outdoor sensor (even though you changed
the batteries), reduce the distance between outdoor sensor and weather station; change the installation
location.
The range may be reduced considerably by:
• Walls, reinforced concrete floors
• Coated/vaporised insulating glass windows
• Vehicles
• Trees, bushes, soil, rocks
• Proximity to metallic & conducting objects (e.g. heaters)
• Proximity to human body
• Broad-band interferences e.g. in residential areas (mobile phones, radio headsets, radio loudspeakers, other radio
weather stations, baby monitoring systems etc.)
• Proximity to electric motors, transformators, wall plug transformers, computers
• Proximity to badly shielded or openly operated computers or other electronic devices
• Low outside temperatures (batteries and rechargaeble batteries are temperature-sensitive!)
