Care and Maintenance

How to Care for your Wooden Garden Furniture
This product is made from FSC TEAK a resinous hardwood. Wood is a natural material and its colour
can vary. Wood absorbs and releases moisture so different types of weather will greatly influence the
long term look of the product. It is highly recommended that you treat the furniture in order
to maintain the original appearance for longer. This should be done before the furniture is
placed outside for the first time.
There is a choice of how to treat the furniture. Proprietary finishes such as good quality oils or wood
stains will help to protect the surface and maintain the original appearance.
Wood Oil
Good quality hardwood furniture oil/teak oil can help to maintain and protect the surface of the wood.
The frequency of application depends on the weather conditions. As a guide we recommend repeating
the process at the beginning and end of every season. Wood oils are a more natural finish but do not
provide the same level of protection as wood stains.
Wood Stain
Wood stains are surface coatings that reduce fading caused by sunlight and protect the timber against
wetting and drying which leads to shrinkage and swelling. Wood stains generally last for 2 or 3 years if
manufacturers instructions are followed correctly.
To extend the product life and appearance it is advisable to store the furniture in a cool dry place
over winter. Ensure that the furniture is clean and completely dry before putting in to storage. Do NOT
enclose the product in a plastic or other non-permeable material as this promotes the growth of mildew
and mould.
