Breville BES920 Descale Checklist
Time Required: 1.5 hrs
Ensure machine has been turned off and allowed to cool for at least 1 hr - this is very important

Pre-Prep:

Empty drip tray and return
Need flathead screwdriver
Remove Descale access plug

Prep:

Machine Off
Press and hold 1 CUP, then while still pressing, press and hold Power for 3 secs until RSET code appears.
press up/down arrow until DESC appears
press MENU to enter Descale mode. The 1 Cup button will light up.
Place teatowel over driptray to stop escaping steam
1 Use Flathead screwdriver to SLOWLY open RIGHT side screw counterclockwise until valve is fully open. Do this REALLY SLOWLY
- if not water is released into drip tray, press and hold the 1 CUP button for 3 secs to release water
2 When all water is released, close the RIGHT hand screw clockwise until seated. Do not overtighten.
3 Use Flathead screwdriver to SLOWLY open LEFT side screw counterclockwise until valve is fully open. Do this REALLY SLOWLY
- if not water is released into drip tray, press and hold the 1 CUP button for 3 secs to release water
4 When all water is released, close the LEFT hand screw clockwise until seated. Do not overtighten.
5 Empty Drip tray
6 Empty water tank
7 Remove water filter
8 Clean water tank
9 Fill water tank with a bit more than 1 L of water. Any more than that is diluting it. Breville instructions say fill to the water line but sounds like dilution
to me. Breville also says fill with cold water whereas back of Breville descaler packet says warm water. Go with warm because dissolving is easier in
warm.
10 Dissolve solution in tank. Note Breville Descaler is made by Cafetto
11 Lock water tank back into machine
