VACUUM PACKING FOR FREEZER STORAGE (2/2)
Quick, gentle steam defrosting
As well as preserving the flavours
and nutritional values of foods,
steam defrosting does not affect their
texture.
To do this, place the packaged
food in a "steam basket" over
your NutriSteam's hot water tank.
Programme your steamer to warm at
60 °C.
Tips and tricks
For sharp foods, reinforce the edges
with napkins or paper towels to
prevent the bag bursting
Vegetables such as broccoli,
cauliflower and cabbage give off gas
when they are vacuum packed fresh
for refrigeration. To prepare such
foods for vacuum packing, blanch
them first.
EN
If the food is not frozen when it is
vacuum packed, leave an additional
5 cm in the bag to allow for expansion
caused by freezing.
For meat, fish and poultry, we
recommend putting them in a paper
napkin and vacuum packing them
with the napkin in the bag so that it
absorbs the moisture.
To preserve food such as pancakes
or hamburgers, stack them with a
piece of greaseproof paper or cling
film between each one. This system
will mean you can take one or more
pieces out and put the rest straight
back into the freezer.
