6. Operation

6.1 Switching the equipment ON/OFF (Fig. 21)
6.1.1 Switching the equipment ON
It is imperative that you proceed in the following order
to switch on the lathe.
First close the safety guard (37) over the three-
jaw chuck (27) (see point 5.10).
The speed controller (1) must initially be set to
zero each time the equipment is switched on or
each time the direction is changed (mark right at
the bottom).
Now select the correct direction using the
direction selector switch (2) (L = anti-clockwise /
R = clockwise).
The equipment can now be started by moving the
speed selector switch (1).
6.1.2 Switching the equipment OFF
Press the OFF switch (A) to switch off the equipment.
Emergency Stop function
To switch off the equipment quickly and easily, for
example in an emergency, press the
ON/OFF/Emergency Stop switch on the flap (Fig.
21/Item 3).
Important:
It is essential that you wait until the equipment has
reached a standstill before you change direction
since otherwise the equipment may be damaged. If
you work at high speed, the speed should be reduced
before the equipment is switched on so as not to
overload the equipment's drive unit.
The controller will shut down automatically if the
equipment is overloaded or jammed.
Pull the mains plug if the equipment is not to be
used for a lengthy period or before carrying out
setting and servicing work.
6.2 Setting the speed (Fig. 21 – 22)
The speed can be infinitely adjusted on the speed
controller (1).
The speed range can be selected using the speed
selector (32).
Speed selector in "Hare" position (high speed):
Speed: 0 - 2,500 rpm
Speed selector in "Tortoise" position (low speed):
Speed: 0-1,100 rpm

6.3 Cooling
Frictional heat is generated on the blade of the
turning tool during turning. To increase the service life
of the turning tool and improve cutting results, you
should cool the turning tool during use. Use the
supplied oil bottle (42) and a water-soluble,
environmentally friendly drilling emulsion for this
purpose.
6.4 Turning
6.4.1 General
Secure the turning tool in the tool holder (23) (see
point 5.6).
Clamp the workpiece securely and as far as
possible in the three-jaw chuck (27).
Check that the workpiece runs true.
Ensure that the feed is deactivated (unless you
wish to carry out thread turning).
Switch on the equipment (see point 6.1).
6.4.2 Longitudinal turning (Fig. 1, 23 - 24)
For longitudinal turning, the turning tool moves
parallel to the workpiece axis.
For longitudinal turning from right to left, first turn
the table slide (5) with the crank handle for
longitudinal feed (4) anti-clockwise and the cross
slide (7) with the crank for hand feed (12)
clockwise until the travel distance of the cross
slide (7) is sufficient for the entire machining
length.
Set the feed direction lever (30) to position 2,
deactivate the feed device and lock the table
slide (5) with the feed locking lever (10).
Move the compound slide (6) by turning the crank
for transverse feed (8) back until the turning tool
does not touch the circumference of the
workpiece.
Now set the cross slide (7) with the crank for
hand feed (12) so that the tip of the turning tool is
above the largest diameter of the workpiece.
Now move the compound slide (6) slowly towards
the workpiece by turning the crank for transverse
feed (8) until the turning tool just touches the
surface of the workpiece.
This is now the starting position for machining the
external diameter of your workpiece. One division
on the scale on the crank for transverse feed (8)
corresponds to a 0.05 mm workpiece diameter
(0.025 mm cutting depth).
Important:
Ensure that the feed direction lever (30) is set to
position 2 and the feed device is deactivated before
you switch on the equipment (see point 5.7.1).
