2.2 Personnel qualifications

The personnel for connection, operation and maintenance and for the planning of the machines and systems
into which this pump is installed must have the necessary qualifications for such work. Personnel must have
informed themselves about the properties of the device by thoroughly studying the operating manual and
must also be trained in the handling of oxygen.
Training within the meaning of BGR 500, Chapter 2.32 is required for all work on the device and for all
planning with the device.
NOTICE: This operating manual must always be available at sites where the vacuum pump is used, in a
language understood by the employees operating it.
For all questions regarding safety and handling of the vacuum pump, please contact Gebr. Becker.
2.3 Safety information for connections and maintenance work
Generally, work on the vacuum pump may be done only when it is at a standstill.
All safety and protective devices have to be enabled immediately after maintenance has been completed.
Before starting maintenance or service tasks, disconnect power from the vacuum
pump and reliably prevent an unintentional restart.
Before working on the pump's suction chamber (e.g. to clean it), the pump needs to be run
on normal ambient air briefly to purge residual oxygen (>23%) from the pump.
Allow the device to cool down for 2-3 minutes before beginning with maintenance. No
contaminants may enter the device!
This refers in particular to material types that react with oxygen (e.g. mineral oil, synthetic
oil, greases, lubricants, cleansers, solvents, hand creams, soaps, ...).
Organic substances such as hydrocarbon-based materials create explosive mixtures with
oxygen.
For permissible materials, refer to the „List of non-metallic materials - Data sheet M 034
(BGI 617)"
Deposits and dirt on the device, filter, valves, fittings and pipes need to be cleaned off regu-
larly. Only cleaners may be used that have been approved by the German Federal Institute
for Materials Testing (see list of the non-metallic materials - for Data sheet M 034-1 "Oxygen"
(BGI 617); see "Oxygen accident prevention regulations" of the statutory accident insurance
providers, p. 37, Sect. 42 ).
If the pump is soiled, or if there is the suspicion that non-approved greases or oils have entered the vacuum
pump, then the device needs to be taken out of operation, treated with special cleaner and the oil replaced.
This work may only be carried out by Gebr. Becker or by specialist companies authorised accordingly by
Gebr. Becker.
Only spare parts approved by Gebr. Becker may be used as spare parts. Disregarding
this can cause an acute risk of explosion!

2.4 Application

The pump is designed especially for meat packaging under an increased oxygen level (>23%/MAP). It is
not intended for ATEX environments.
The maximum permitted temperature of the intake gases is 40 °C.
