PROPELLER

The propeller converts the engine's power into the thrust needed to propel the
boat. Care and selection of your propeller is very important for proper boat
operation. Propeller size is usually identified by three numbers,
such as 13 x 16 x 1-1/8, and a material identification, such as brass, aluminum or
stainless steel. In the number sequence, the first number is the diameter of the
propeller in inches and the second is the pitch in inches and the third number is
the diameter of the propeller shaft.
Pitch is the angle of the blades expressed in the theoretical distance a propeller
travels in each revolution. In the above example, the pitch is 16, which means that
each revolution of the propeller pushes the boat 16 inches (406 mm) through the
water.
It is recommended that the boat be removed from the water for propeller
replacement, as the propeller is not easily accessible while the boat is in the
water. A special puller and tools are required to remove the propeller in most
applications.
Always consult your local marina or certified marine technician for assistance
when replacing or servicing propellers.
