I. Operating principal and main components
This paragraph describes how the Climexel heat pumps work. An understanding of the workings of the heat pump will
help you realise the importance of the preparation work and measures to be implemented before installing, using or
maintaining your heat pump.
A heat transfer fluid (R 407 C) travels in a continuous loop through a copper circuit. As it moves through the circuit it
experiences the following cycle: :
1)
capture of calories from ambient air as it flows over the fin-type "evaporator". The fan propels
ambient air over aluminium fins covering the copper tubes through which the liquid is flowing; the fluid
is heated by the ambient air which, in turn, is cooled down.
2)
the fluid enters the "compressor", here the fluid pressure is raised significantly thus further increasing its
temperature (all models except the HC-HH 62 are fitted with a Scroll type compressor)
3)
the fluid passes into the "condenser" or plate type heat exchanger where calories are transferred from
the heat transfer fluid to the pool water, the fluid is cooled while the pool water is heated.
4)
the fluid returns to its initial temperature and pressure in the expansion chamber and the cycle starts
again
Thus the compressor and expansion chamber delimit two half-loops:
-
the half-loop situated on the condenser side is referred to as the HP or High Pressure loop
-
the half-loop situated on the expansion chamber side is referred to as the LP or Low Pressure loop
Heat is transferred to
the pool water from
the heat transfer fluid
within the plate-type
heat exchanger.
Pool water
The compressor increases
the pressure of the heat
transfer fluid and thus
raising its temperature
further
With an ambient air temperature of 15°C, CLIMEXEL heat pumps transfer 4 to 5 times more energy to the pool water
than they consume (90% of this energy is consumed by the compressor): these machines have a yield (or COP -
Coefficient of Performance) of between 4 and 5 (refer to the table below for the exact values for each model).
The expansion chamber
decreases the pressure of
the fluid thus lowering its
temperature

it heats up the heat transfer
