18. Pre-form the lower packing using the lower packing sizing
tool (included in the repacking kit).
19. Insert lower packing (Fig. 19) in such a way that the side
with the smaller distance between the O-ring (1) and the
protruding lip (2) faces upward.

20. Push the lower packing (9) into position using the lower
packing insertion tool (see Fluid Section Assembly parts
list for lower packing insertion tool P/N).
21. Place the piston insertion tool (included in the repacking
kit) over the top of the piston rod (5).
22. Lubricate installation tool and piston (5) with machine
grease.
23. Insert the piston rod (5) into the bottom of the upper
housing (1), through the lower packing (9), through the
upper packing (8), and out through the upper seal retainer
(7).
When repacking the fluid section, make sure the
i
raised lip on the bottom of the lower packing is
fully outside the packing around the piston rod
after insertion of the piston rod.
24. Remove installation tool from piston (5).
25. Lubricate the threads on the upper housing (1) with anti-
seize compound. Remove the upper housing from the
vise.
26. Insert the piston rod (5) into the extension slider (3). When
the connecting pin hole on the piston rod lines up with the
hole in the extension slider, insert the connecting pin (4).
27. Thread the upper housing (1) into the cylinder (2), turning
clockwise.
28. Continue to turn the upper housing clockwise until it is
flush against the cylinder.
29. Replace the cylinder (2) back into the fluid section clamp
on the gear housing. Make sure to slide the top of the
piston rod extension into the T-slot on the slider assembly.
30. Place the fluid section block back into position over
the fluid section. Replace the bolts that secure the fluid
section block to the gear housing. Replace the washers
and tighten the bolts. Replace the pail bracket and secure
with the bolts.
31. Making sure that the o-ring (fig. 20, item 12) and PTFE back-
up ring (fig. 20, item 13) are lubricated and in place, thread
the lower housing (10) into the upper housing (11). Using
two wrenches, hold the upper housing at the wrench flats
with one wrench and tighten the lower housing with the
other. Torque to 400 +/- 20 in.-lbs.

32. Attach the high-pressure hose to the nipple on the back
of the housing and tighten with a wrench. Do not kink the
hose.
Make sure the hose does not touch the cart
i
frame. If it does, reposition the nipple by turning
the upper housing until the hose is clear of the
frame and the nipple is within 45º of the back of
the unit.
33. Screw in inlet valve housing (Fig. 14, item 2), see Chapter
9.2, item 9.
34. Fasten return hose with clamp at suction tube.
35. Install front cover.
