G3
In today's economy, companies are struggling to keep their revenue growing at
a constant rate. They demand steady productivity from their employees and 24/7
accessibility from their computer systems. A great challenge to a company's IT
departments lies in keeping its employees and systems up and running
continuously. They must have an effective and efficient provisioning and policy-
based system management program in place, and a remote management controller
is an integral component of such a program.
MegaRAC
generation in AMI's remote management
controller family. It incorporates a unique
methodology to OEMs that extends a
system's manageability through a Platform
Development Kit (PDK). The MegaRAC
G3 PDK gives OEMs the ability to build a
policy-based provisioning software
component and user interface. With this,
OEMs can add intellectual properties to
enhance management features or
communicate with special hardware
features.
The distinguishing strength of the
MegaRAC G3 is its extendability through
the G3 PDK that allows many modules
and utilities to be developed and
management policies to be executed.
Below is a list of other distinguishing
characteristics of the MegaRAC G3.
• Provisioning can be developed based on
the G3 infrastructure.
• Reliability and availability (RAS) can
be addresses with provisioning software.
• USB CD and floppy offers a
simultaneous presence of two virtual
devices for administrators.

ability to boot from a bootable image
located at the client system. Admini-
strators can centralize the the repository
of all the bootable images needed for all
servers.
• IPMI style event log management and
alert mechanism are followed, which
comply with industry standard features.
• RMCP allows for a common method of
interaction with the BMC in the system
over a secured TCP/IP connection. This
helps tremendously in blade server
management.
• Built-in firewall capability that allows
administrators to block desired TCP
ports.
• Multi-language support, as the G3
supports Unicode.
