Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is the evolutionary replacement for parallel SCSI.
The physical layer of the SAS interface is designed to be compatible with the
physical layer of Serial ATA (SATA) interface. This facilitates the SAS & SATA
drives to be plugged into the SAS BackPlane provided the controller has support for
SATA. The SAS controller communicates with SATA devices using SATA Tunneled
Protocol (STP). AMI's 918 is a custom four drive SAS/SATA-II backplane with
support for SGPIO for SAS and enclosure management protocol for Promise SATA
host bus adapters.
The 918 Backplane is a hot-swap
SAS/SATA-II backplane with enclosure
management, ideal for cost-sensitive and
performance-oriented system designs. The
918 Backplane supports four drives and
supports LEDs for Activity, Fail and
Rebuild for each drive.
The 918 Backplane is designed to work
with both SAS host controller and Promise
SATA host controller supporting both
SGPIO and Vendor specific protocol for
Promise SATA HBA.
When the Backplane is connected to
SAS Host Bus Adapter (HBA), the
enclosure management is supported using
SGPIO interface. The Backplane supports
SGPIO as per SFF-8485 specification for
Serial GPIO (SGPIO) Bus Rev0.4. The
backplane has 4 slots and can connect up
to four SAS or SATA devices.
When the Backplane is connected to a
Promise SATA host bus adapter, the
protocol is supported through I
backplane can be connected to maximum
of four SATA devices in this configuration.
AMI designs custom backplanes for
major OEMs and chassis/case
manufacturers. When customer's integrate
AMI's backplanes into their case design,
they receive a quality product at a cost
effective price.
AMI designs custom SAS, SATA, SCSI
and IDE backplanes in a variety of
configurations, with key high-speed
system components. AMI's experienced
staff understands the latest industry
innovations and uses the latest tools and
techniques needed to design highly reliable
systems.
