3. Safety instructions

Improper installation or use of the support bars can cause them to fall off the vehicle and cause an accident
or serious personal injury.
Always install support bars and accessories carefully, following the enclosed support bar instructions, and
observe all WARNINGS.
Before fitting the support bars, check that your vehicle's roof rails are 55 mm (2.16 inches) wide. Never fit the
support bars to a roof rail that is narrower or wider.
Objects improperly attached to the bars may fall and cause an accident or personal injury.
Always make sure that all bolts and brackets are properly fitted and tightened before each journey
and at each rest stop during a long journey.
Check the system and tighten the bolts if necessary.
When using poorer roads or hilly and mountainous terrain, all connections must be checked more
frequently, such as during breaks during a long journey.
Always mount special brackets for items such as bicycles, skis, surfboards, etc. properly.
Never use straps or other fasteners that are damaged, insufficiently strong or unsuitable for
securing objects to the support bars.
Never overload the support bars.
Always ensure that the total weight of the poles, pole accessories and roof load does not exceed
100 kg.
Follow the instructions for the roof load on page 36 of these assembly instructions in each case.
Carrying heavy, bulky loads on the roof of the vehicle changes the vehicle's handling characteristics
by shifting the vehicle's centre of gravity, changing the aerodynamics and crosswind empfindability.
A maximum driving speed of 130 km/h is recommended.
Large, heavy, bulky, long or flat loads have an increased negative impact on the vehicle's
aerodynamics, centre of gravity and overall handling.
Adjust driving operation and speed to the load being carried, as well as to road, traffic, weather and
wind conditions.
Avoid sudden braking or evasive manoeuvres.
Never exceed the maximum roof load, maximum axle load or the permissible total weight of the
vehicle "Technical data" instructions in your vehicle logbook.
Note
Always ensure that loads are properly distributed, that heavier items are located in the vehicle near the front
and that heavier items are secured to the support bars near the centre.
