Rubber link
This technique keeps the winch line taut over its entire range of travel by way of a rubber link. In the
„fully paid out" position, the winch line is tied to the drum without any reserve length. The free end of the
line must reach to the attachment point for the sheets and the rubber link must accommodate the length
of winding travel. A thin rubber link (about 1 mm) should be used because elongation of a rubber link is
limited and it exerts a tension force on the winch when it is stretched. The rubber link should be made as
long as possible to keep elongation per cm as small as possible throughout the adjustment range. Another
way to reduce elongation of the rubber link is to halve adjustment travel with a pulley located behind the
attachment point for sheets. If this is done, be sure the rubber is still tight enough in the paid out position to
keep pull on the winch line.
