Rope Grab Inspect the Rope Grab for damage: Look for cracks, dents, or deformities. Look for bending or
wear on the Attachment Eye (A), Locking Cam (B), Lock Ring (C), Lock Pin (D), Opening Lever (E),
(Figure 2)
Groove (F), Release Button (G), Auto-locking Lever (K), and Locking Arm Spring (L).
Inspect the entire unit for corrosion.
Inspect the Attachment Eye (A) and Locking Cam (B) to ensure that the Cam moves freely
without hesitation, binding or sticking.
Inspect the Locking Cam (B) and ensure that the teeth are not rounded or worn.
Use the Opening Lever (E) to ensure that the Lock Pin (D) travels freely up and down the
locking sleeve.
Test repeatedly that the Rope Grab opens when the Release Button (G) is depressed with the
Opening Lever (E). The Release Button must be fully extended after the Rope Grab is closed.
The two halves of the Rope Grab must close and open freely on the Hinge (J). Inspect the
Lifeline Channel (H) and ensure that there are no dips or depressions worn into the channel
and that the Dimples (I) are without damage. Ensure all engravings are legible.
Activate the parking feature (K) and verify that there is resistance against the Locking Cam (B)
when attempting to raise the Attachment Eye (A). With the parking feature (K) deactivated,
there should be no resistance on the Locking Cam (B).

Verify that all labels are securely attached and legible (see 'Labels').

Verify that the lanyard meets all requirements from Table 1.
Inspect the lifeline in accordance with the vertical lifeline user manual. Verify that the lifeline

meets all requirements from Table 1. The vertical lifeline should be free of excessive buildup of

dirt, paint, snow, or ice that could prevent the Rope Grab or lifelines from working properly.
PFAS and Other Additional Personal Fall Arrest System (PFAS) equipment (harness, lanyard, vertical lifelines,
anchor point) that are used with the Rope Grab should be installed and inspected per the

manufacturer's instructions.
