This instruction manual includes some functions which are
usable only when they are preset by your dealer. Ask your
dealer for details.

About the LED indicator
• Lights red while transmitting.
• Lights green while receiving a signal, or when
the squelch is open.
• Blinks red when the battery is exhausted.

CAUTION: Attach the connector cover when
optional equipment is not used.

q SIGNAL STRENGTH ICON
Displays the relative receive signal strength level.
w LOW POWER ICON
Displayed when low output power is selected.
• When the battery charge decreases to a set level, low power is
automatically selected.
e AUDIBLE ICON
Displayed when the channel is in the 'audible' (unmute)
mode.
Displayed when a matched signal is received.
r SCRAMBLER ICON
Displayed when the Voice Scrambler function is ON.
t SCAN ICON
Displayed while scanning.
y MESSAGE ICON
Displayed when a message is received.
u BELL ICON
Displayed when a matched signal is received, depending
on the presetting.
BASIC OPERATION

Turning power ON
Before using the transceiver for the first time, the battery
pack must be fully charged for optimum life and operation.
See the back page of this sheet.
Rotate [VOL] to turn ON the power.

Displayed when a position data is received.
o BATTERY ICON
Displayed or blinks when the battery power decreases to
a specified level.

!0 SCAN TARGET CHANNEL ICON
Displayed when the scan target channel is selected.
!1 VOX ICON
Displayed when the VOX function is available.
!2 ALPHANUMERIC DISPLAY
Displays the operating channel number, channel name,
Menu contents, DTMF code, and so on.
• The display mode automatically switches between one line and
two lines.
!3 KEY ICONS
Displays the assigned function of the front panel keys
([P0], [P1], [P2] and [P3]).
!4 SCAN TARGET ZONE ICON
Displayed when the scan target zone is selected.

Receiving and Transmitting
CAUTION: Attach an antenna before transmitting. Trans-
mitting without an antenna may damage the transceiver.
Receiving:
q
Rotate [Selector], push [CH U]/[CH D], or push one of the
direct channel select keys, [DR 1] to [DR 5], to select a
channel.
w
When receiving a call, rotate [VOL] to adjust the audio
output level to a comfortable listening level.
Transmitting:
Wait until the channel is clear to avoid interference.
q
While holding down [PTT], speak at a normal voice level.
Release [PTT] to receive.
w
IMPORTANT:
To maximize the readability of your signal:
1. After pushing [PTT], pause briefly before you start
speaking.
2. Hold the microphone 5 to 10 cm (2 to 4 inches) from
your mouth, then speak at a normal voice level.
