PREFACE This Operator’s Manual is meant for personnel that are operating the machine and are responsible for its daily maintenance. Kindly read this manual fully prior to starting work. Such instructions as are related to your safety and/or that of others are marked in the margin by a warning triangle with exclamation mark.
- Use flashing lights or other safety signs, when required. - Don’t stand on the machine. - Use genuine LELY parts only. - Remove the pressure from hydraulic systems before starting work on them and/or before coupling/ uncoupling hydraulic hoses.
EXPLANATION OF SAFETY DECALS ON THE MACHINE - Carefully read operator’s manual before handling the machine. Observe instructions and safety rules when operating. - Attention! Moving parts. Stay clear of rotating machine parts. - Danger of flying objects. Maintain a sufficient, safe distance from the machine as long as the tractor engine is running.
The machine is built up of a cutter bar and a conditioner unit. The cutter bar is fitted with type N or S discs (fig. 1). The cutter bar is composed of cutting units according to the modular Lely system. These elements as well as the intermediate spacers are torqued together by a connecting rod.
2 MOUNTING BEHIND THE TRACTOR The headstock is fitted with double linkage pins (categoryII) giving two linkage possibilities (fig. 3) and allowing adjustment of the offset position of the machine behind the tractor. Depending on the method of mowing, the machine is positioned directly next to the tractor tyres, or offset to a certain extent.
- Place the end of the control cord for locking the ram in the tractor cab. SPLENDIMO MC mower with mechanical ground pressure relief: - Raise the machine with the lifting device of the tractor and the hydraulic valve in the floating position until the retaining pin can be removed from the sliding frame in front of the springs (fig.
4 MACHINE ADJUSTMENTS Put the machine into the working position as follows: - Open the valve on the ram (fig. 7). - Pull the operating cord of the cylinder lock to raise the lock hook or to open the valve of the hydraulic system (fig. 6). - Actuate the double acting tractor valve and carefully extend the machine fully.
Ground pressure The ground pressure of the SPLENDIMO MC mower is set either with the mechanical ground pressure relief system using a spring packet or with a hydraulic ground pressure relief system. If, during operations, the cutter bar has a tendency to float which inhibits proper ground contour following, then the pressure in the relief system should be adjusted at a lower level.
® 5 OPERATING THE SPLENDIMO • Make sure that nobody is near the machine at the moment the PTO is engaged. • Do not allow anyone to come within a 100 m radius from the machine during work. • Stop the tractor engine before leaving the tractor cab. •...
- If the machine needs to be placed in the transport position at the end of its operation: wait until all moving parts have come to a standstill. When folding up a machine with rotating parts, serious damage may be incurred by the PTO shaft. Please also be referred to chapter 3 “Transport”.
7 MAINTENANCE • Correct machine servicing is necessary with a view to reliable and safe working. • Install supports underneath the cutter bar if it is lifted from the ground, and you intend to carry out work to the machine. Maintenance after operations - Clean the machine thoroughly.
Intermittent maintenance Intermittent maintenance has to be carried out: • at the start of the mowing season; • before prolonged storage of the machine; • when the machine is used extensively during the season. - Grease all points of the machine listed in § 7.2 ‘Lubrication’. - Grease the spring-loaded locking pins of the yoke lock of the PTO shaft.

- Check all bolts and nuts for tightness. Pay particular attention to the bolts which secure the skids and wear plates (fig. 23). When tightening loose bolts/nuts the torques listed below should be applied. 13,5 21,5 41,0 71,0 - Convince yourself of the presence and undamaged condition of all safety decals on the machine (fig.
Replacement of knives 50-60 Nm (5-6 kgm) The mower knives come in 2 different versions for discs with LH or RH rotation. The front of the cutting edge has to point downward, viewed in the direction of rotation of the disc (fig. 25). The mower knives have two cutting edges.
Change of grease in mower elements Replace the grease in the mower elements every 500 working hours 39 Nm (3,9 kgm) or every 1,000 hectares. Follow the directions listed hereafter. - Remove the mower disc. If several bearing housings need to be dismounted, care should be taken that they are fitted back on the original mower elements.
Supplement A REPAIRS TO THE CUTTER BAR A.1 Cutter bar assembly/disassembly The figures placed between brackets correspond with the numerals in figure A-1. The cutter bar is built up of independent units (1). These mower elements are kept apart by intermediate spacers (2). The units and spacers are kept together by a connecting rod (3).

Supplement A Assembly of the cutter bar takes place in the reversed order. Mind the directions listed hereafter: - Clean the centring rings (10) and the contact areas of the mower elements and intermediate spacers. SPLENDIMO 280 MCN - Make sure that there is no contamination between those elements and spacers which were not dismounted (rub the sides with Castrol Tarp).
Supplement A A.2 Replacement of the disc on the drive element - Open the V belt housing. - Remove the tension from the V-belts and dismount them. - Untighten the three bolts from the cover A (fig. A-5) and remove the cover A.
Supplement B CONDITIONER ADJUSTMENTS The conditioner of the SPLENDIMO MC mower conditioner allows adjustment possibilities for the position of the top hood and conditioner rotor. In addition, a different rotor speed can be obtained. Should the conditioner tend to get jammed in a long crop, it is recommended to adjust the conditioner (i.e.
Supplement B B.3 Rotor speed The machine can be supplied together with an additional drive pulley (option) for the conditioner rotor. By exchanging this pulley with the standard part, a different rotor speed can be adjusted. - Open the V belt housing. - Remove the tension from the V-belts and remove them.
Supplement C C.2 Adjustment of minimum system pressure If the minimum ground pressure relief is insufficient, or if a higher adjustment is required by way of fixed setting, the minimum system pressure can be adjusted. Please proceed as follows to ensure this adjustment: - Unfold the machine (see chapter 4).
Supplement C C.3 Trouble shouting Problem Possible causes Machine does not unfold Valve on ram is closed - Open valve on ram Machine does not unfold completely Adjustment of minimum system pressure too high - Decrease pressure adjustment; see supplement C.2. Machine hits the ground too abruptly when - Decrease the descending speed - see §...
Supplement D OPTIONAL EXTRAS Skids Skids fitted underneath the cutter bar ensure that the SPLENDIMO mower follows the ground contours more easily. Due to the streamlined shape of the skids, the mower does not dig into the ground in case of unevenness while at the same time soil is prevented from building up underneath the discs.

Supplement D Crop divider When mowing very long crops, the grass still to be mown on the right side of the machine may tend to build up. A crop divider is available to ensure that the crop that has not been mown is pushed to the side, thus preventing it from building up.
