Skating technique
Never ride without the help of an adult who will help you with your first training. Learn proper skating technique, when possible from an
experienced skater. Take the first steps preferably on an old carpet or grass, before you dare to take the first steps on the asphalt. From the
beginning, always hold on to a suitable object. Try to keep your balance while alternately stretching your legs forward and backward, and keep a
balance on one leg. Now that you keep your balance without assistance, search a suitable location and repeat the above exercise.
Do not ride on streets or sidewalks; look for appropriate place for skating, such as playground or in-line tracks. Beware of pedestrians and take
them into account.
First skating: Stand upright and keep your skates around the width of the hips. Slightly bend your knees. Put your hands in front of the body and
put the centre of gravity of the body on the feet. Do not stand too straight and do not hold too tightly your knees. Alternately, move forward your
right and left leg while balancing from one foot to the other.
Braking:
- Heel braking: The heel brake is used by inclining the foot with the heel towards the ground (leg must go forward, toe upward at an angle of 45
degrees.) and pushing the brake with your foot, keeping the body upright. Do not remove the brake! It will prevent the risk of an accident in a
narrow space where you cannot turn. Given that due to wear the effectiveness of the foot brake may be decreased, it is necessary to check it
regularly, preferably before each use.
-T-Stop: the centre of gravity moves to the right or left foot (depending on your preference). Raise the unweighted leg and put it at right angle to
the direction of ride. Now push the inner side of the skate. Make sure that you have your hands in front of you and the upper body in the direction
of the ride.
