Understanding display messages

Messages appear on the Smart Panel program window or the control panel
display to indicate the machine's status or errors. Refer to the tables below
to understand the messages' meaning and correct the problem if necessary.
Messages and their meanings are listed in alphabetical order.
Note
When you call for service, it is very convenient to tell the service
representative the display message.
Messages in the colored cells are available only with SCX-5530FN.
Message Meaning
Authentication The ID or password
Failure you entered is
incorrect.
Cancel? Your machine's
memory has

become full while
trying to store an

[COMM. Error] The machine has a
communication
problem.
Connection Error Connection with the
SMTP server failed.
Connection Failed The protocol you
have entered is not
supported or server
port is wrong.
Data Read Fail Time expired while
reading data.
Check USB Mem.
Data Write Fail Storing to the USB
memory failed.
Check USB Mem.
Document Jam The loaded original
has jammed in the
ADF.
Door Open The front cover or
rear cover is not
securely latched.
Suggested solutions
Enter the correct ID or
password.
To cancel the fax job,
press the OK button to
accept Yes.
If you want to send those
pages that have been
successfully stored,
press the OK button to
accept No. You should
send the remaining
pages later, when
memory is available.
Ask the sender to try
again.
Check the server settings
and the network cable.
Check the protocol or
server port.
Try again.
Check the available USB
memory space.
Clear the jam. See page

Close the cover until it
locks into place.

File Name Over The file names you
