Testing Connectivity Using PING

To test network connectivity using the minimal network configuration, an
application called 'PING.EXE' may be used. The 'PING.EXE' application is
installed on any PC with XP or Vista networking enabled. Ping sends a packet
of data on TCP port 7. The T464 will 'echo' the packet back to the PC and the
time taken for the round trip will be displayed, if the T464 is located.
To use 'PING.EXE' to test network connectivity on a PC:
• Select the RUN option by clicking 'Start', then clicking 'Run'
• In the RUN box type 'CMD' to open a Command Window.
• Click inside the Command Window
• Type PING <T464 IP> (substitute the T464 IP) and hit Enter
Table 5 shows some example IP's for the connectivity test setup:
T464 IP
192.168.0.3
192.168.0.11
192.168.0.221
169.254.17.195 169.254.114.075
Table 5 Note: This combination of IP's and subnet mask will work, but the
user will not be able to discover the IP of the T464 (self allocated by AutoIP).
This is a typical situation encountered when using Windows default network
settings. The Network Monitor application will be able to locate the T464 using
a discovery broadcast.
