Battery

Check the fluid level in the cells from
outside approximately every 4 weeks,
and more often in sum m er and in hot
zones.
The fluid level must be between the
lower and the upper markings.
Refill battery only with distilled water.
Do not use metal funnels or push
through the overfill-protection dia­
phragm s in filler holes.
The battery is com pletely filled when
the w ater stops draining through the
overfill-protection diaphragm.
To check the battery charge w ith a
hydrom eter, push its tip through the
overfill-protection diaphragm and
take the electrolyte sample.
Coat battery terminal clamps with
acidproof grease. Keep battery clean
and dry.
The service life of the battery is also
dependent on its condition of charge.
It m ust be maintained sufficiently
charged fo r the battery to last an o p ti­
mum length of time.
Therefore, we recom m end that you
have the battery charge checked fre­
quently if you use the vehicle mostly
fo r short distance trips, or if it is not
used fo r long periods of time.
Only charge battery with a battery
charger when it is disconnected from
the vehicle electrical circuit.
Warning!
Battery fluid contains sulfuric acid. Do
not allow this fluid to come in contact
with eyes, skin, or clothing. In case it
does, immediately flush affected area
w ith w ater; if necessary seek medical
help.
A battery will also produce hydrogen
gas, w hich is flammable and explo­
sive. Keep flames or sparks away
from battery, i.e. im proper connection
of jum per cables, cigarette smoking,
e t c . .
While the engine is running the bat­
tery terminal clamps m ust not be
loosened or detached as otherwise
the alternator and other electronic
units w ould be damaged.
Only tow vehicle with the battery co n ­
nected.
