Troubleshooting
The troubleshooting information is provided
as a reference when your Fire Fighter is not
functioning correctly.
Symptom
Pump does not take
on water
Pump takes in
water, little or no
discharge
Suction hose leaks
at inlet
Discharge hose
does not stay on
coupling
Impeller does not
turn, pump is hard
to start
Possible Problem
Not enough priming water in the
housing
Engine speed too low
Strainer plugged
Suction hose damaged
Air leak at suction port
Pump is located too high above
water line
Debris collecting in pump housing Clean pump housing
Too much distance between
impeller and volute
Water leaking out weep hole
between pump and engine
Suction lift or discharge head too
high
Engine speed too low
Suction strainer partially plugged Clean strainer
Impeller/volute worn
Fittings/clamps are not sealed
properly
Hose diameter is too large
Pressure too high
Hose kinked or end blocked
Impeller jammed or blocked
Impeller and volute binding
To ensure that you receive the best possible
service, it is recommended that you exhaust
all applicable troubleshooting solutions shown
prior to calling your dealer, or Goldacres, for
service advice.
Solution
Add water
Increase throttle
Clean strainer
Replace or repair hose & clamps
Check that fittings are tight & sealed
Move pump closer to water
Adjust clearance by adding shims or
replace impeller. Min. .010" -Max. .020
Check condition of mechanical seal
& gaskets, between pump end and
engine housing
Check hose/pipe installation
Increase throttle speed
Adjust clearance by adding shims or
replace impeller/volute
Tighten, replace or add clamp. (Keep
extra seals on pump)
Use smaller diameter hose or replace
hose
Check pressure, add additional clamp
Check hose
Open pump cover and clean dirt and
debris from inside housing
Adjust clearance by removing shim
from behind impeller
