    Subaudible Tones CTCSS (PL) Tone Codes Sometimes a special signal is added to your voice transmissions in order to distinguish your radio’s signal form someone else. This is called a subaudible tone. If a tone is needed by the other people to hear your transmission, you MUST use a transmit tone.
