TROUBLE SHOOTING
The Wallenstein Backhoe is designed to fi t on the back of a small agricultural tractor and is used to dig,
excavate and trench. It is a simple and reliable system that requires minimal maintenance.
In the following section, we have listed many of the problems, causes and solutions to the problems that
you may encounter.
If you encounter a problem that is diffi cult to solve, even after having read through this trouble shooting
section, please call your local distributor or dealer. Before you call, please have this Operator's Manual
from your unit and serial number ready.
PROBLEM
Boom and bucket move slowly.
Machine jerks when moving.
Control levers do not return
to neutral.
Boom does not stay up.

CAUSE
Pump worn out.
Screen dirty or plugged.
Low oil fl ow.
Flow control set too low.
Low oil level.
Screen dirty or plugged.
Sucking air.
Low oil level.
Return springs collapsed.
System dirty.
Cylinder seals leaking.
SOLUTION
Replace pump.
Clean or replace screen.
Increase tractor RPM.
Open fl ow control to get more
fl ow.
Check oil level. Add as
required.
Clean or replace screen.
Check fi ttings in hydraulic
system. Tighten all fi ttings to
stop air intake.
Check oil level. Add as
required.
Check valve return springs.
Replace any that have
collapsed or are not as long as
they should be.
Change oil and clean screen.
Replace cylinder seals.
