EQUIPMENT MATCHING

To insure the safe and reliable operation of the Back-
hoe, it is necessary to use a tractor with the correct
specifi cations. Use the following list as a guide in se-
lecting a tractor to use on the machine.
1.
Horsepower:
Although horsepower is not required to operate the
backhoe, it does establish the size of the 3 point
hitch and total weight for machine stability. Do not
exceed the backhoe power specifi cations.
2.
Tractor Weight:
By following the recommendations for the tractor
power, the tractor will have suffi cient weight to pro-
vide stability for the unit when transporting. It is also
recommended that each tractor be equipped with
a front end loader or a full complement of suitcase
weights on the front of the tractor. This will provide
the required weight on the front for transport stabil-
ity or to counter-balance the dynamic loads during
operation.
3.
3 Point Hitch:
The Backhoe is equipped with a Category I or I and
II 3 point hitch depending on the model. Be sure the
tractor 3 point hitch is in the proper confi guration.
Install the lift arm blocks or shorten the stop chains
to place the arms into the non-sway confi guration.
Refer to the tractor manual for details. Be sure
tractor top link is strong enough to handle load.
4.
Subframe:
For small tractors without a 3 point hitch, subframes
that attach to the rear of the tractor provide a mount-
ing frame for the backhoe.
a. The subframe that attaches to the rear of the
tractor is called a 4 point mounting system.
b. The subframe that has a frame that extends
along the side of the frame is called the belly
mount.
5.
PTO Shaft (Optional Hydraulic Unit):
The tractor must have a 1 1/3 inch 6 spline 540 RPM
PTO shaft to fi t the pump drive coupler available
with the kit. Do not use shaft adapters or operate
at any other speed.
It is not recommended that tractors with variable
speed PTOs be used on the Backhoe. Operating
at speeds faster than 540 RPM will overspeed the
pump and lead to early failures.
