    1. Introduction and overview The Self Belay is a safety connector that is used for securing oneself to the end of an auto belay device. It adds to the safety of climbing through its unique design. The Self Belay Set is comprised of 3 main parts that come packaged inside the box.

    Installation on steel cable The installation of the Self Belay on a steel cable includes the following steps:(1) Remove the horseshoe washer with a flat screwdriver from the pin as shown in Photo 2-3. (2) Lift and remove the pin assembly and the plastic washers as shown in Photos 4-6.

  • Page 9 Installation on textile webbing The self belay is installed on textile webbings in the following manner. (1) Please refer to steps 2-6 from Installation on steel cable for the removal of the pin, horseshoe washer and plastic washers. The procedure is the same here. (2) The webbing is positioned through the loop as shown in Photo 1-3.
  • Page 10 IMPROPER USE OR DEVICE ALTERATION. Тhe Self Belay maillon is attached to the harness and then inserted into the Self Belay body as shown in Photos 1-3 (left to right). The key is then grabbed and pulled outward as shown in photos 4-6 in order for the body to be released and the user to start climbing.

    Read this carefully! • Self Belay body: The Self Belay body is warranted for 12 months, counted from the date of arrival to the client. Any damage, excluding normal wear and tear or unauthorized tinkering with the device by the client or third parties, that leads to the device being dysfunctional or unsafe within the 12 month period obliges the manufacturer (Safety Engineering) to send (a) replacement new or refurbished device/s to the customer at no cost.
  • Page 12 Check for any rust or cracks in the area shown in Photo 1. In case any rust or cracks are visible, contact Safety Engineering immediately at support@safetyeng.eu ! The plastic covers on both sides should be inspected for cracks and damage as shown in Photo 3 and 4 below.
  • Page 13 The Self Belay key should be inspected in the highlighted area for damage, twisting, bending or breakage as shown below in Photos 7-9. Make sure that the delta maillon inserts in the discs (shown in Photo 10) easily and without excessive effort. In case of jamming or unresponsiveness of the discs, try lubricating them with a silicone/oil based lubricant.
  • Page 14 Make sure the key inserts in and out of the self belay body easily and without excessive effort. Inspect the lock pins in the Self Belay body as shown in Photo 11. It is normal for the pins to become worn with time, but there cannot be any breakage! If one or both of the pins have broken, retire the device immediately and contact the manufacturer at support@safetyeng.eu!

  • Page 22 Position the Self belay device on the vice in the milling machine as shown below. Step 4: Manually adjust the milling bit to match each of the rivets holding the self belay body together. There are 4 rivets in total that hold the Self belay body. Use a 3mm milling bit.

    8. Lifespan The self belay has a lifespan of 12 months, which can be extended up to 5 years with the extended warranty program. It is imperative that the client send their self belays for inspection every year as outlined in Warranty info on p. 9 in order for the warranty extension to hold.
