5. Airflow check:
The airflow from the Limited-Use Public Health Emergency PAPR
is pre-calibrated and non-adjustable. The Air Flow Indicator must
be used to verify minimum required airflow is attained prior to
each use. During use, if you suspect the PAPR is not delivering a
minimum of 170 lpm (6 cfm), exit the contaminated area, see your
supervisor, and recheck the airflow with the Air Flow Indicator.
• Ensure float ball in the Air Flow Indicator moves freely in the
tube and the gasket at the bottom end of the tube is in place.
Rinsing with clean water may help free a stuck ball. Allow
tube and ball to dry prior to using.
• Insert the Air Flow Indicator into the outlet of the
Limited-Use Public Health Emergency PAPR blower unit. If
the breathing tube is in place, it must be removed to allow
the Air Flow Indictor to be inserted (Fig. 7).
• Turn the blower unit on by pushing the power control button.
Run the Limited-Use Public Health Emergency PAPR for
1 minute to allow the airflow to stabilize.
• With the Air Flow Indicator in a vertical position, ensure that
the bottom of the floating ball rests at, or above, the
minimum flow mark. Air Flow Indicator must be in the
vertical position for an accurate reading.
Note:
If the Air Flow Indicator ball fails to rise at or above the
minimum flow level, do not use the blower unit. Refer to the
Limited-Use Public Health Emergency PAPR Troubleshooting
Guide or contact Technical Service.
