Safety Precautions The following are general safety precautions that are not necessarily related to any specific part or procedure, and do not necessarily appear elsewhere in this publication. These precautions must be thoroughly understood and apply to all phases of operation and maintenance. WARNING Keep Away From Live Circuits Operating Personnel must at all times observe general safety precautions.
Safety Precautions Safety Symbols WARNING Warning notes call attention to a procedure, which if not correctly performed, could result in personal injury. CAUTION Caution notes call attention to a procedure, which if not correctly performed, could result in damage to the instrument. The caution symbol appears on the equipment indicating there is important information in the instruction manual regarding that particular area...

The installation section provides an example connection diagram and steps required for a typical installation. Maintenance — This section provides contact information for the Bird Service Center and provides a list of the specifications for the 4044 Series Non- Directional Power Sensors.
The Bird 4044 Series Non-Directional Power Sensors are analog power sensors designed for use with the Bird Channel Power Monitor (CPM). The 4044 Series power sensors are typically used to measure forward average power on a 50 ohm RF transmission line with a maximum 100 watt forward power level in a frequency band with an overall range of 144 to 960 MHz.
Chapter 2 Installation The Bird 4044 Series Non-Directional Power Sensors are designed to be used for continuous power monitoring in multiple Land Mobile Radio (LMR) systems. When used with the Bird CPM the 4044 can provide real-time RF power measurements.
Non-Directional Power Sensor Power Sensor Installation This procedure is an example of one possible cable configuration, based on the Connection Diagram WARNING Never attempt to connect or disconnect RF equipment from the transmission line while RF power is being applied. Leaking RF energy is a potential health hazard.
Chapter 3 Maintenance There is no user maintenance for the 4044 power sensor, contact the Bird Service Center in the event the power sensor requires maintenance. Customer Service Any maintenance or service procedure beyond the scope of those in this chapter should be referred to a qualified service center.
Non-Directional Power Sensor Specifications Specification Value Power Requirements Input Voltage 15 VDC (supplied by CPM via RJ25 Jack) Operating Power < 5 mA Operating Characteristics 144 to 960 MHz, "Model Identification" on page 7 Frequency Range for specific frequency ranges of each model. Average Forward Power 100 W Max.
Maintenance Mismatch Uncertainty Mismatch uncertainty is a factor that can affect measurement accuracy. When a source and an antenna have different impedances, some signal will be reflected back to the source. The non-directional power sensor does not differentiate between forward and reflected power, so any mismatch will impact the measurement.
Limited Warranty All products manufactured by Seller are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one (1) year, unless otherwise specified, from date of shipment and to conform to applicable specifications, drawings, blueprints and/or samples. Seller’s sole obligation under these warranties shall be to issue credit, repair or replace any item or part thereof which is proved to be other than as warranted;...
