Operating Instructions for the Semak Hot Dog Cooker & Bun Spiker
Locate the appliance on a level surface making sure that there is a clearance of
100mm around the appliance for ventilation.
Make sure that the switches are in the "OFF" position. Plug into an earthed
single phase 10Amp 240V AC power supply.
Turn the switch for the corresponding tank or bun spikes on. The indicator
switch will light up when "ON". The "TANK" switch will turn the tank element
on and the "SPIKES" switch will turn the spikes on
Lift the lid, remove the wire rack and pour water into the tank to cover the
element. Replace the tank and lid. Place hotdogs in the tank. Packing them
tightly together increases the cook time required to heat them thoroughly.
Turn the "TANK" switch to 2 or 3 so that the water will simmer. Allow the bun
spiker to warm up 3-5 minutes. Adjust the temperature to achieve the desired
level of heating.
Check the water level in the tank each hour to ensure that there is sufficient
water in the tank to cover the element. Top up if necessary.
Ensure that the bun /roll is long enough to cover the whole spike. Short buns
may have the end pierced by the spiker if they are not long enough and
depending on how the hot dog etc is served this may cause sauce/mustard etc.
to drip from the bun. Place the bun on the spike. DO NOT touch the spike with
your hand to avoid burns. Some rolls/buns are soft and this can inadvertently
lead to burns if the sides of the roll/bun collapse or are pierced. Extra care must
be taken if using soft rolls and crispy ones are recommended.
DO NOT butter the roll. Butter can be added after the roll is toasted.
The buns are cooked when they appear toasted on the inside. Lift the bun off
the spiker and look in to determine if it is toasted. As a guide they take 1-2
minutes. Add sauce if required and insert the hot dog.
When finished heating turn the switches "Off". The appliance is "OFF" when
the indicator switches are no longer lit.
