SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENTS
TRACTORS EQUIPPED WITH HORIZONTAL CRANK SHAFT ENGINES ONLY
UPPER V-BELT ADJUSTMENT
CAUTION
A NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE BELT DRIVES
OR AUGER CtWN SHOULD BE MADE
WITHOUT SHUTTING OFF THE TRACTOR
ENGINE AND REMOVING THE SPARK
PLUG WlRE(s) FROM THE SPARK
PWG(s).
TO CHECK UPPER V-BELT TENSION
• Shut off tractor and remove ignition key.
• Remove spark plug wire(s) from spark plug(s).
• Place Snow Thrower on ground level.
• If dimension "A" on Idler Bracket Assembly measures
1" or less, Upper V-Belt should be. adjusted.
TO TIGHTEN UPPER V-BELT
TENSION
• Roll V-belt off of the top pulley of the snow thrower
mounting frame. (See Fig. 31)
• Remove bolt, two washers, lock washer and nut from
Idler PUlley. (Top pulley position) See Fig. 30
• Place V-belt and Idler Pulley in (lower pulley position)
and secure with bolt, two washers, lock washer and
nut.
• Roll V-belt over the top pulley of the snow thrower
mounting frame.
• Check V-belt for proper installation. Make sure narrow
"V" side is engaged with each pulley.
NOTE: If V-belt adjustment is moved to the lower
position and Idler Pulley tension is used up, we
recommend that you replace the V-belt before the snow
season.
UPPER V-BELT REPLACEMENT
NOTE: If old V-belt was adjusted, Idler pulley must be
moved back to the top position when installing a new V­
belt.
• Remove hood and grill. (see tractor manual for

instructions)
• Remove old V-belt.
• Place Upper V-belt over clutch pulley and under Idler
pulley and Tension pulley.
• Roll Upper V-belt over top pulley of snow thrower
mounting frame.

• Make sure the narrow "V" side of the V-best is
engaged in each pulley.
• Replace hood and grill.
