    Next, take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the Palm Tungsten C, if you are not already. Configuring the Palm To configure the Palm Tungsten C for use with the LI-8100, follow the steps below: If you have not installed the Palm software, insert the Palm Tungsten C Desktop Software CD (CD1) into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  • Page 6 The window below will appear. Highlight the LI-8100 Palm software in the Handheld list. The properties of the software are shown to the right (name, size and type). Below that is displayed “Ready for HotSync operation”.
  • Page 7 Turn on the Palm Tungsten C. Place it on the cradle. Press the HotSync button on the cradle. The Palm Tungsten C will load the LI-8100 Palm software and when finished, an LI-8100 icon will appear on the screen. Remove the Palm Tungsten C from the cradle.
  • Page 8 10. Turn on the Palm Tungsten C. Tap the LI-8100 icon. Tap Connect by Serial. Wait while the “Status: Querying …” message is displayed and the “Instrument Status” screen is active. 11. Tap the top of the screen and select the 8100 menu. Select Instrument Settings.
  • Page 9 Leave Security “DISABLED”. Tap next to Wireless Channel and select a number (i.e., 10). You will need to remember this number in a later step. Tap next to IP Address. The Set Network IP Address screen appears with four spaces separated by three dots. Tap the space to the left and enter “192”.
  • Page 10 A new screen named Set Network Netmask appears. Type “255.255.255.0” and tap Send. 13. Turn the LI-8100 off and then back on again. Wait for the “Ready” light to come on. 14. Next, we will configure the Palm Tungsten C. Go to the home screen of the Palm Tungsten C by pressing the Home key (lower right).
  • Page 11 19. Tap OK three times in succession, tap Done two times, and then press Home on the keypad. 20. Turn the LI-8100 off and then back on. While waiting for the “Ready” light to come on, disconnect the Palm Tungsten C from the Palm RS-232 cable.

    5. Verify the network type is peer-to-peer ad-hoc, not access point. 6. Power the instrument off, make sure the wireless card is seated properly, and turn instrument back on. 7. Shorten the distance between the LI-8100 and Palm Tungsten C.

    Next to Security it should now display ENABLED. 3. Press the Home key on the Palm Tungsten C. Turn the LI-8100 off and back on. Wait for the ready light to come on.
