    Any system components being returned for repair or replacement must be processed through the Tekelec Return Material Authorization (RMA) procedures. A hardware repair is defined as an item returned to Tekelec due to a failure, with the returned item being repaired and returned to the customer. It is essential that serial numbers are recorded correctly.

    Functional Description Fan Assembly The EOAP requires a fan assembly for operation. Fan support also requires a new fan alarm cable (B clock cable P/N 830-0404-xx). Perform the replacement of a fan during a maintenance window and complete it within one hour. WARNING: The EOAP unit can operate without failure or component damage for up to one hour without the fan tray providing cooling.

Any undocumented changes to the files may cause the system to become corrupted and unusable. Making any undocumented changes on the EOAP, including changes to the hardware, operating system and/or the components found therein will void the warranty.

    Functional Description Terminal The user console for the EOAP is a Digital Equipment Corporation VT-520 terminal. The VT-520 is connected to the EOAP through an RS232C terminal cable attached to the first serial connector of the processor card through the EOAP backplane.

Port 3A/B and port 4A/B are reserved for SEAS communication. From these port(s), an RS232C cable is connected to a 9600 bps synchronous modem or other equivalent device necessary to connect to the SEAS system.
  • Page 49 Functional Description Messaging Communication between the EOAP and the SEAS involves three message types: • SEAS commands • STP responses • STP autonomous messages These messages may involve one-way or two way communication between the SEAS and the EOAP. The actual messages are from the SEAC to the STP, however, the EOAP receives and transmits these messages between the two in a format that each can understand.

    Performance of this feature is affected by the requirement that the EOAP buffer an EAGLE 5 ISS message before transmission. It is a SEAS requirement that the STP knows the total length of a message before transmission of the message to SEAS.

CAUTION: These are redundant systems to allow service during normal maintenance.

    Installation Procedures Procedure — Install EOAP Fan Assembly Determine where the fan assembly will be installed (see Figure 3-2, “EOAP Front,” on page 3-10) and be aware of hardware that needs to be retained or installed in a specific way. If an air baffle is installed in place of the fan assembly: The fan unit may be secured with the same screws that are removed from the frame holding the baffle in place.

    Installation Procedures Remove the fan assembly from the shipping container. The fan is shipped with the side flange not attached. Remove the grill and filter from the fan assembly by loosening the two thumb screws on the grill faceplate. Temporarily store all in a safe place. Figure 3-4.

  • Page 68 Installation Procedures From the rear of the frame and on each side of the fan assembly, insert two screws through the mounting bracket and into the side of the fan assembly. Refer to Figure 3-6, Step 2. Align the fan assembly with the sides of the shelf and tighten the two screws that secure the mounting brackets to the frame rails.

    Installation Procedures EOAP Shelf The EOAP shelf contains EOAP cards for a single or dual EOAP configuration. At delivery, the EOAP shelf comes premounted in an OAP frame with all EOAP cards preinstalled. The EOAP shelf is always installed above the cooling duct of the fan assembly.
