SYMPTOM INDEX
Symptom
Intermittent process checks with
all I/O devices attached.
Intermittent process checks and
bring up failures.
Process check on power up.
Bring up failure on power up.
Fails to power up intermittently.
Fans run but there is no voltage
to Al board.
Fails to power up within five
seconds after power down (30
to 90 seconds).
Blows card and land patterns on
A 1 board after installing a TV
monitor.
Keyboard locks with flashing
cursor.
Key pressed and wrong character
is displayed.
Unsteady display.
No display and registers are not
running.

Isolation Aid
Remove all the I/O devices to see if
the problem still occurs.
Check the power cable plug (Yl) on
the A 1 board. The clamp might be
formed wrong; this allows the plug
to fall out.
Suspect the M2 storage card. Swap
the M2 card with another storage
card to verify this.
Go to DISPLAY REGISTERS.
If ROLO is 0006, the failure is in
the bring up diagnostic.
None.
Remove the AC fan motor plug
and the AC tape motor plug at the
AC box. Then power up.
Check the TV monitor line cord
wiring for an error causing chassis
to be hot (110 AC).
Check the last key pressed and verify
that it operates. Press the RESTART
key to isolate the failing key.
None.
Switch to DISPLAY REGISTERS.
Check the connections on the
brightness control.
Remove the printer from the system.
Fix
Replace the printer adapter card.
Reform the clamp holding Y1.
Replace the M2 card.
Replace the J2 card.
Replace the POWER ON/POWER OFF
switch.
If the machine powers up, suspect the
wiring of the AC box.
The customer must have the TV monitor
wiring corrected.
Clean or replace the failing fly plate and/or
key module.
Replace the ROS card, storage card, or
display card.
Repair the connections on the brightness
control.
Replace the printer adapter card.
