2-1. Driving procedures
Changing shift ranges in "S" mode
To enter "S" mode, shift the shift lever to the "S" position.
"S" mode allows a shift range to be selected, which restricts the
highest gear that can be used. This can be used when it is desirable
to prevent unnecessary upshifting, such as when driving uphill, or
to change the level of engine braking force, such as when driving
downhill.
The initial shift range in "S" mode is set automatically between
"3" and "7" according to vehicle speed and driving conditions.
Shift ranges and their functions
Automatically selects a gear between "1" and "8" according
to vehicle speed and driving conditions. (The gear is limited
according to the selected shift range.)
You can choose from 8 levels of engine braking force.
To increase engine braking force, select a lower shift range
number.
