"Depth of field" is a characteristic of different lens
whereby the area in front and in back of the subject that
is in focus at the film plane varies in relation to the
aperture setting of the lens in use. The depth of field
becomes more deeper as the lens aperture is closed
down, and shallower as the lens aperture is opened up.
To vary the depth of field:
.
To increase the area in front and in back of the
subject that is in focus, set the aperture ring to a
higher f-number to close down the lens. To make the
subject standout in a blurred foreground or
background, set the aperture ring to a lower f-
number to open the lens wider which will narrow the
depth of field.
