The lens aperture ring is used to increase or reduce the
amount of light reaching the film surface.
To set the lens aperture, turn the aperture ring so that
the clickstop setting for the desired f-number setting
matches up with the focus/aperture index mark.
Intermittent f-number settings can also be selected.
Each time a higher f-number is selected (for example,
on changing the aperture setting from f4 to f5.6), the
lens aperture narrows down one step and the amount of
light reaching the film decreases by 112. Conversely,
each time a smaller aperture is selected, the lens
aperture widens one step and the amount of light
reaching the film doubles.
.
Varying the aperture setting not only allows you to
increase or decrease the amount of light on the
subject for different exposure effects, but also allows
you to control the depth of field to create different
focusing effects.
