Image trouble

Phenomenon
The density of the copy
image is light.
The density of the copy
image is dark.
The copied image is stained.
The copy image is fogged.
The density level of the copy
image is uneven in a horizon-
tal direction.
Usual cause
Toner has run out.
The copy density is set
lighter.
The transfer charger wire is
dirty.
The copy density is set
darker.
The Reversing Automatic
Document Feeder (optional)
/ Automatic Document
Feeder (optional) or the
Platen Cover (optional) is not
lowered fully.
The original glass, platen
sheet, scanning area or
guides are dirty.
The copy density is set
darker.
A highly transparent original
is used.
There is a slight gap
between the original glass
and the original.
The copy paper is damp.
The transfer charger wire is
dirty.
Before Calling Service Technician
Countermeasure
"Toner empty" appears on the display
when toner has run out. Replace the toner
cartridge if the message appears.

Make the density darker if you use the
manual copy density mode. Or use the
automatic copy density mode.
Clean the transfer charger wire.
P.200 "Cleaning transfer charger"
Make the density lighter if you use the
manual copy density mode. Or use the
automatic copy density mode.
Lower them fully to block outside light.
Clean them.
P.198 "Daily Inspection"
Make the density lighter if you use the
manual copy density mode. Or use the
automatic copy density mode.
Place a blank sheet of paper, the same
size as the original or larger, over the orig-
inal.
Lower the Platen Cover (optional) or the
Reversing Automatic Document Feeder
(optional) / Automatic Document Feeder
(optional) fully so that the original will con-
tact with the original glass.
Replace with dry copy paper.
Clean the transfer charger wire.
