  • Page 6 Overview USB2connect Host Bus Adapter The Adaptec USB2connect Host Bus Adaper is a USB 2.0 PCI host adapter for PC and Macintosh computers that provides connectivity to USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 devices.   • Page 9 USB2connect User’s Guide Installing USB2connect Discharge any static electricity buildup by touching a grounded metal object (such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer) before handling the USB2connect adapter. WARNING: Turn power to the computer and disconnect the power cord.
  • Page 10 Replace the slot cover screw. When installed properly, the card should be level with the expansion slot. Close the computer cabinet and reattach the power cord. The USB2connect AUA-5100 adapter shares one internal and external connector so that only five can be used at one time. The default setting is that all external connectors are Enabled, and the internal connector is Disabled.

    USB2connect User’s Guide Installing the Windows Drivers Once the USB2connect is installed in your computer, complete the following steps as appropriate for your operating system to install a software driver for the adapter. Note: It is important that you complete the New Hardware Wizard for your operating system if it appears, even though there is currently no driver available for USB 2.0 devices.
  • Page 12 If you see a message that the PCI Universal Serial Bus driver was not located, select the option Automatic search for a beetter driver (Recommended). Click Next. If you do not have a USB 2.0 driver for USB2connect, the Add New Hardware Wizard displays the message Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device.

    Windows 2000 Note: You must be logged on as Administrator or have administrator privileges to install USB2connect in the Windows 2000 operating system. Power up the computer. During the operating system startup, the adapter will be detected and Windows will load embedded drivers for the adapter.
  • Page 15 USB2connect User’s Guide On the Install Hardware Device Drivers window, select the option Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended). Click Next. On the Locate Driver Files window, uncheck all the options. Click Next.
  • Page 16 Installing the Windows Drivers On the Driver Files Search Results window, select the default option Disable the device. Otherwise the operating system will attempt to locate a USB 2.0 driver each time you start the computer. Click Finish.

    Windows 98 SE Because the USB2connect has three controllers, (two OCI USB 1.1 and one EHCI USB 2.0) Windows 98 SE requires all these devices to be installed. Please follow these instructions carefully. When the Add New Hardware Wizard opens, click Next. Select Search for the best driver for your device (recommended).
  • Page 19 USB2connect User’s Guide Select The updated driver (recommended). Click Next. You may see a message that Windows is searching for the driver. Click Next. When you see the following prompt, insert your Windows 98 CD in your CD-ROM drive and click OK.
  • Page 20 Type the drive letter for your CD-ROM drive in the Copy files from box as shown below and click OK. Note: If you have copied your driver files onto your hard drive and know where they are located, you can browse to that folder instead of inserting the Windows 98 CD.
  • Page 21 USB2connect User’s Guide At this point, the driver for the first OHCI (USB 1.1) controller is installed. To install the driver for the second OHCI controller, repeat steps 1-8. To install the USB 2.0 EHCI driver, repeat steps 1-3. The following window will display. Click Next.

Follow the instructions to install the latest Macintosh USB drivers, if necessary. Double-click the USB2connect Installer file and follow the instructions.

    Connecting USB Devices You can connect standard USB 1.1 or high-speed USB 2.0 devices to the external or internal connectors on the USB2connect adapter. A 10-foot (3-meter), USB 2.0 certified, high-speed cable is included.     USB2connect User’s Guide Troubleshooting If you have problems while installing USB2connect, check the following: Note: If you experience any performance issues with your USB device when connected to a hub, connect that device directly to the USB2connect adapter. Is the adapter seated evenly in the PCI slot? Is bus mastering support provided and enabled for the PCI slot containing USB2connect? (Check your motherboard documentation for information on this.)
