11. CREATING A ROUTING TABLE
Each routing table entry comes with the following parameters:

RIP on/off
Dest. Network ID
Dest. Subnet Mask
Next Hop
While an incoming packet is received, the system will detect its destination. First,
the system will calculate the destination subnet via the AND operation between
destination IP and its mask. If the destination subnet matches the predefined one,
routing policy will route this packet to the interface that connect to specified Next
Hop address. If there is no match, this packet will be forwarded to the default-
routed interface defined on previous section.
Description
Checked to enable RIP (Routing
Information Protocol) function.
The subnet ID of destination IP address 0.0.0.0
The subnet mask of the destination
subnet
The IP address of the neighbor/peer
interface for routing purpose
