The electronic compass requires that it is recalibrated every time you change the
batteries. Failure to calibrate the compass could result in errors of 20° or more to
the displayed heading. Calibration is very simple and won't take more than a few
minutes.
It is very important that there are no metallic objects near the eXplorist 600 dur-
ing this calibration.
1.
Remove the eXplorist 600 from any cradle it may be in.
2.
Turn the eXplorist 600 on and press the MENU button. Scroll down to
highlight "Preferences" and press ENTER. Scroll down again to highlight
"Compass Calibrate" and press ENTER.
3.
Do not try to calibrate the compass while in a moving vehicle.
Read the instructions and press ENTER.
4.
Lay the unit down on its back. It is best to use a hard surface
such as a table or a desk. Make sure the unit is not near
any metallic objects as this may affect the unit's sensors.
Make sure the bubble is centered in the crosshairs and press
ENTER.
5.
Do not touch the unit until it prompts you to do so.
6.
When the unit prompts you to do so, rotate the unit clockwise,
keeping the arrow pointed towards you.
If you rotate the unit too slowly, the calibration
sequence will stop.
7.
Place the unit face down until it beeps.
8.
When the unit has finished calibrating, press
ESC to return to the menu.
Holding the eXplorist 600
The eXplorist is designed to fit in the palm of your
hand. Hold the receiver level with the ground for the
compass to work properly and accurately.
