    Make sure all equipment is rated and approved for the environment in which it is used. Any approvals obtained for Nordson EFD equipment will be voided if instructions for installation, operation, and service are not followed. If the equipment is used in a manner not specified by Nordson EFD, the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired.

    • Test: Verify the operation of features and the performance of equipment using the appropriate sections of this manual. Return faulty or defective units to Nordson EFD for replacement. • Use only replacement parts that are designed for use with the original equipment. Contact your Nordson EFD representative for information and advice.

    Disconnect and lock out system electrical power. If using hydraulic and pneumatic shutoff valves, close and relieve pressure. For Nordson EFD air-powered dispensers, remove the syringe barrel from the adapter assembly. For Nordson EFD electro-mechanical dispensers, slowly unscrew the barrel retainer and remove the barrel from the actuator.

    The force of the stepper motor is transferred to the syringe barrel by a flexible cable assembly. The plunger, attached at the end of the cable, drives into the Nordson EFD piston inside the syringe barrel. This action forces the fluid out to make the deposit.

    • From the Retract to Home screen (F1), F4 allows you to select the No option. • From the Modify screen, F4 allows you to adjust the syringe barrel specifications for stroke.     In MANUAL mode, the Pause button is not active. • Pause is measured in milliseconds.     • The maximum number of Pullback steps is 20,000. • The default setting for Pullback is 200 steps.     Slide the syringe barrel off the plunger. Discard the barrel, or if storing for later use, replace the dispense tip with a tip cap.     Use the (+) or (-) buttons to adjust as needed. NOTE: The stroke should reflect the distance the Nordson EFD piston will travel to dispense all of the fluid in the syringe barrel. For example, if the barrel is loaded half-full, a certain stroke length (measured in centimeters) will be required to empty it.

    Components • Always use new Nordson EFD barrels and tips. Carefully dispose of after use. This procedure ensures maximum cleanliness, prevents contamination, and provides proper safety. • You must use a piston with the Ultimus IV. Besides being required to connect with the plunger, the piston makes barrel loading, dispensing, and fluid handling cleaner, safer, and more accurate.

    Use a slotted screwdriver to turn the plug clockwise.     (with piston) from the bottom up. • If the fluid comes prepackaged in a 1/10 gallon (300 ml) caulking type cartridge, use the Nordson EFD Atlas Filling System. For additional assistance, contact a Nordson EFD Fluid Application Specialist.

    Contact closure - (ground) NOTES: • An 8-pin DIN connector and cable assembly is available. Order Nordson EFD P/N 7017143. • Ultimus IV operation is identical for dispense initiation from I/O inputs or the foot pedal. • Pins 6 and 8 of the I/O connector are internally connected to the signal ground.

    Pull both fuses out of the fuse tray and discard. Replace both with 1.0 A / 250 VAC 5 x 20 mm fuses (Nordson EFD P/N 7017255 or equivalent). Orient the fuses in the same manner as the fuses that were removed.
