by one or
more letters or numbers.

You will probably
not see the symbol
< ESC > on the screen,
but a
different
symbol such as h E or, A [ or perhaps no symbol at all. This depends
on your software.
After printing
the first page of a long job, you may want to pause to
check that the printing
is correctly
formatted.
Press the On Line switch,
setting
the printer
off-line.
Printing
will stop immediately.
To resume
printing,
press the On Line switch again.
If you need to abandon
a printing
job before it is finished,
your software
should
provide
a command
for this purpose.
Another
simple expedient
is
to switch the printer's
power off.
