The GEO card may be added to any of the available VIA bays
when facing the rear of the NEO SERIES module or
freestanding NEO SERIES 8000. The GEO Card may also be
installed in the Expansion or Secondary Card Cage of the NEO
4000 or 8000.

1. Verify the NEO Library is powered down.
2. Using the RS-232 cable that came with the Neo Library,
connect the RJ-12 end of the cable into the RJ-11 serial
connector on the VIA GEO card. If the original cable was
lost, a replacement cable may be ordered from Overland.
3. Configure the RS-232 port in your terminal emulator
software using the following settings:
a. Baud rate: 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, or 115200;
115200 best for downloading firmware upgrades
b. Data Bits: 8
c. Stop Bits: 1
d. Parity: None
e. Flow Control: None
4. Connect the GEO card 10/100 BaseT management port to
your management LAN.
Warning:
The GEO management port should
never be connected to the Neo module
library router.
5. Connect the GEO's SCSI Bus(s) to the Library Controller
Card and tape drives. Ensure SCSI cable connectors are
tight and all SCSI busses are properly terminated.
Inspect Package Contents
The NEO SERIES GEO (Gigabit Ethernet Option) card is a
Gigabit Ethernet to SCSI bridge capable of supporting NDMP
protocol for the NEO SERIES family of libraries. The GEO card
supports the copper version of the Gigabit Ethernet Standard,
also referred to as 1000 BaseT. The NDMP variant is known as
GEOn.
The GEO card allows NEO SERIES libraries to conduct seamless
communications with GE (Gigabit Ethernet) networks, provide
protocol conversion for NDMP and routing commands, along
with data and status between SCSI devices and the network.
1. Visually inspect the shipping container and notify your
carrier immediately of any damage. Place shipping container
on a clean surface and carefully remove and verify the
contents against the packing list. If parts are missing or the
equipment is damaged, notify your representative. Always
save the containers and packing materials for any future
reshipment.
2. Carefully unpack the GEO card and ensure that you have all
the parts specified below:
• GEO card
• User's Guide
• Quick Install Poster
• 10 ft Cat 6 ethernet Cable
NOTE:
Use the same RS-232 cable shipped with the
NEO SERIES Library. If one is needed contact
Overland Storage Technical Support.
This Install Guide describes how to install and configure your
GEO card. It assumes you are familiar with basic functions of
your computer and networking. It also assumes you are
familiar with the target network you intend to attach to.
Install the Gigabit Ethernet Option Card
1. Power down the Neo library. Close circuit breakers (NEO
8000) and remove the power cords.
2. Using a 4 inch Phillip's screwdriver, remove one of the VIA
option bay filler plates.
NOTE:
The library controller card must always be
housed in the far right PCI slot. Insertion of an
option card into this slot will damage the PCI
backplane and render the library inoperable.
3. Keep the filler plate for future use.

6. Connect the GEO Ethernet Data Port(s) to your data GigE network.

7. Connect each supplied power cord 1 to each power supply receptacle (if not
previously connected).
8. Power on the NEO SERIES library by toggling each power switch 2 on or
circuit breakers (NEO 8000). This will also apply power to the GEO Card.

Carefully insert the GEO card into the upper and lower guide rails
of the VIA option bay
Slide the GEO card into the option bay. Resistance will be felt when
the GEO card begins to mate with the library backplane.
Apply just enough force to seat the GEO card snugly into the library
backplane to ensure proper connectivity.
Tighten the hold down screws for the GEO card.
9. Press anywhere on the GUI touch screen 3 to activate
the display and turn the library module on and wait for
the Library to complete the bootup.
10. Wait for the GEO card to complete POST (Power On Self
Test). POST should take no more than 3 ½ minutes to
complete. The HyperTerminal session will display the
POST (Power On Self Test) as it executes on the GEO
card. You can test for completion of the POST by
pressing the Enter Key on the PC. When the GEO card
responds with "Ready" you may proceed.
11. Repeat Setps 8 through 10 for multiple NEO SERIES
libraries.
