Overview

The HDS-X5800 Routing Switcher Processor is a
matrix switcher that can handle signal rates of 360
Mbps SDI and 540 Mbps SDI as well as HDTV SDI
(1483.5/1485 Mbps), in addition to those of the
conventional SDTV SDI (143 Mbps to 270 Mbps).
Installing various optional boards (see below) in
combination in the enclosure model HDS-X5800, you
can expand the system up to the maximum matrix size
(264 inputs and 272 outputs) of the enclosure in units
of 33 inputs or 34 outputs.
Use of the optional cascade input boards with an
external signal distributor permits you to connect
sixteen HDS-X5800 exclosures to expand the inputs/
outputs up to 1024 × 1024.

• HKS-5811M/5811SD 34 Cascade Input Board Set
Note
In a signal system that handles HDTV SDI signals,
always use M-type boards (HKS-58xxM) from inputs
to outputs.
In a signal system that handles 270-Mbps serial bit-
stream signals of the DVB-ASI standards, use the
HKS-5830M as the matrix board.
For details, refer to the Installation Manual.
Operations of the HDS-X5800 system are controlled
by an external controller, such as the optional BKS-R-
series control units, which perform the actual signal
switching. Also, to operate this system, a terminal
emulator on a PC is required for the switcher settings
(i.e. table data creation and system settings).

Routing Switcher System
Multiple signal formats
The HDS-X5800 system can handle signal rate of 360
Mbps SDI as well as those of the conventional SDTV
SDI (143 Mbps to 270 Mbps).
The rate can be independently selected for each input/
output.
In addition, use of optional boards for both SDTV and
HDTV will enable the system to also handle 540 Mbps
SDI and HDTV SDI (1483.5/1485 Mbps).
Expansion in units of 33 inputs or 34 outputs
The system can be expanded up to the maximum
matrix size of each enclosure in units of 33 inputs or
34 outputs.
Redundant CPU and power units
For the control board and power supply unit that are
essential for each broadcasting device and must be
highly reliable, a backup CPU board and power supply
units are included as standard blocks.
Four reference signals
The switcher has four input connectors for video
reference, which can be independently selected for
each matrix board in units of 17 outputs.
You can use, for example, the house sync of a
broadcast station for one matrix and another reference
of different phase and frequency for another matrix in
a single enclosure.
Four S-BUS control lines
The system has four independent control lines of the
Sony S-BUS control format, which enables operation
control via a single coaxial cable. Complicated daily
operations can be achieved via a single coaxial cable.
Newly developed software specifications
This system supports new software upgraded in the
controllable matrix sizes and control items from the
conventional routing switcher control software. The
principal upgrades are as follows:
• Handling of 1024 × 1024 (8 levels) or 1024 × 512 (16
levels) is enabled.
• Up to 2048 sixteen-character "Description names"
can be registered.
• Up to 32 "type names" can be used.
• The number of group factors for tie-line management
is expanded to 255.
