4. SYNTHESIS SECTION / TAB

The Synthesis page is the heart of the instrument, where the basic sound is generated. Here,
you select from eight different waveforms (or draw your own wave), and design how those
waves will change over time as you play the keyboard.
Click on the Synthesis tab (just under the ARTURIA CZ V logo) to open this window. (If you
don't see the tabs, click the double-downward arrows left of the MIDI symbol in the upper
toolbar.)

4.1. Lines 1 and 2

The Synthesis display page is split into left and right sides. Each side represents a sound
generator. You can play either one of the generators, or both, using the LINE SELECT button
and indicators on the upper right side of the onscreen keyboard. The options are Line 1, Line
2, 1+2', or 1+1'.
Alternatively, you can turn each Line on or off by clicking on the power button
icon in the upper left hand corner of each line.
To enter 1+1' mode, you can click on the DUPLICATE icon at the top of the LINE 1
section.
In 1+2' mode, Line 2 can be detuned from the frequency of Line 1 using the DETUNE settings
in the center of the screen (OCT(ave), NOTE (semitone), and FINE (+/- 60 cents)). In 1+1'
mode, the CZ creates a duplicate of Line 1 that can be detuned, but shares the same
waveform and envelopes.
Each side is called a "Line", instead of an "oscillator" (DCO or VCO), for several reasons. First
of all, notice that each Line has two waveform windows, so it's as if each Line has two
oscillators. Second, each Line has its own set of pitch, DCW, and amplitude envelopes which
are completely independent of each other.
