WBT Mini can be operated in two different modes; EK80 mode or Autonomous mode. EK80 mode In EK80 mode, the WBT Mini is used with a computer running the EK80 echo sounder software. The EK80 software provides full real-time control of the WBT Mini using the Ethernet interface.
Using the WBT Mini in Autonomous mode, page 23 System diagram The system diagram identifies the main components of a basic WBT Mini system. Only the main connections between the units are shown. In this publication, the computer is referred to as the PC.
In EK80 mode, the WBT Mini is connected to the PC with a dual-purpose connector for Ethernet and DC power. In Autonomous mode, the WBT Mini is connected to the PC with a serial cable. The serial cable is used to download the mission plan. For power connection in Autonomous mode, you use the dual-purpose cable (Ethernet and DC power), or you can make a dedicated power cable.

Using the WBT Mini in EK80 mode About EK80 mode When used in EK80 mode, the WBT Mini is controlled by the Simrad EK80 Scientific echo sounder program. The EK80 software provides full real-time control of the WBT Mini using the Ethernet interface.
To operate the WBT Mini in EK80 mode you need a valid software license. Before you can use the WBT Mini you must obtain a "license string" and install it on your PC. Without a license you will not be able to communicate with the transceiver.
Page 17
In order to obtain a software license you must contact a Simrad dealer or distributor. You can also use the request form on http://www.simrad.com/support, or contact our support department directly.
Installing one or more transducers The transducers you wish to use with the WBT Mini must be "installed" in the EK80 program as a part of the software configuration. Which transducers to use depends on the number of transceivers in your system, and the licenses you have for these. Unless you replace a broken transducer, or add a new, you only need to do this once.
Page 19
Insert the serial number. This serial number is very important, because you will need it as a reference identification when the WBT Mini is calibrated. Some new Simrad transducers with built-in "intelligence" will automatically provide this serial number. Type the name you wish to use into the box.

Using the WBT Mini in EK80 mode Installing transceiver channels In order to use the WBT Mini, the EK80 PC must be connected to one or more WBT Mini transceivers, and each of them must in turn be connected to one or more transducers. Each channel must be installed before it can be put to use.
Page 22
Simrad WBT Mini Instruction Manual Procedure Open the menu. Setup On the menu, select Setup Installation Observe that the dialog box opens. This dialog box contains a number of Installation pages that you select from the menu on the left side.
Result When all channels have been installed, you can start normal operation. Caution You must never set the WBT Mini to "ping" unless the transducer is submerged in water. Related topics Using the WBT Mini in EK80 mode, page 12 Disconnecting transceiver channels A WBT Mini transceiver channel can be disconnected from the EK80 PC.

The USB flash drive provided is exclusively selected, tested and formatted for use with the WBT Mini. The use of another USB flash drive - even if it is identical to the device provided - may reduce the operational quality and the performance of the system.
The USB flash drive is inserted and extracted through a dedicated access panel on the WBT Mini. Prerequisites Whenever you need to open a WBT Mini for parts replacement or other kind of maintenance, you must do this in a protected environment. Make sure that you have enough working space and the correct tools.
