The table below quickly compares the Secure Update Wizard and Secure
Update Utility to help you in choosing the method that suits your needs best:
Remote Update API
A developer may instead create a customized remote update option using
the Secure Update API functions implemented in SecureUpdate.h. It is avail-
able at the following path in your Sentinel Keys SDK installation:
Sentinel Hardware Keys Developer's Guide
Secure Update Wizard
Wizard-based and graphical. You can
customize the user-interface, instruc-
tions, and include custom graphics,
like a splash screen.
Localization-ready.
Best suited for try-and-buy applica-
tions that use expiration date, time,
and execution count.
It can be integrated with your pro-
tected application (as described in the
Sentinel Keys Toolkit Help).
Since it is installed with the protected
application, your customers can use it
for updating stand-alone keys.
Available only for Windows.
For Windows: <installdir>\Secure Update\Secure Update Utility\INTF.
Please note that separate libraries are provided for Windows 32-bit
and x64.
For Linux: <installdir>/secure_update/SecureUpdateUtility/INTF/
For Macintosh: <installdir>/Secure Update/Secure Update Utility/INTF/
Remote Update Methods
Secure Update Utility
Compact and ready-to-use
(requires no configuration).
Suitable for updating the hard-
ware key memory and features
with all the action types defined
on page 136. It can also be used
for incrementing the counter
programmed into distributor
keys.
Can be shipped as an indepen-
dent utility. See also, "Deploy-

page 202.
Can be used for updating stand-
alone or network keys.
Available for all supported plat-
forms on Windows, Linux, and
Macintosh.
