12.2.4 Lubrication
Possible Cause:
Bad engine oil quality.
Oil filter or cooler blocked.
Oil thermostat or thermostat spring
defective.
Oil temperature sensor or indicator
defective.
Lack of oil in the oil sump.
Oil pump defective.
Oil pressure regulating piston or spring
defective.
Oil loss due to blocked crankcase
ventilation.

Remedy:
Change oil. Use specified oil.
Change oil filter. Clean oil cooler, replace if
necessary.
Note:
At low ambient temperatures the oil may be
overcooled in the oil cooler, thus causing
blockage and high oil pressures. Mask oil
cooler by suitable means to raise oil temper-
ature.
Check thermostat block, repair or replace if
necessary.
Check temperature sensor and indicator
and replace as necessary.
Check oil level and refill oil as necessary.
Note:
If the engine was accidently operated without
engine oil after performing an oil change –
expect severe engine damage. A teardown
inspection and repair ist strongly recom-
mended for safe operation.
Repair or replace oil pump.
Replace regulating piston or spring.
Clean ventilation, replace and properly in-
stall breather line (no bucklings or contrac-
tions).
